Any Bookmark operations involves excessive hdd activity (read I am not sure it will successfully complete).

possibly related to bug 182373 What size is your localstore.rdf and bookmarks.html files? Are you sharing a profile with NS6/7 or older versions of Mozilla? Does the bug still happen if you create a new profile?
In response to R.K.Aa: localstore.rdf = 5KB; bookmarks.html = 6KB I observe no increase in CPU or Mem usage under TaskMgr/Performances nor image size under TaskMgr/Processes. I am not sharing profile with any other browsers or versions. But I did remove Moz 1.0 & 1.1 via add/remove programs after verifying proper operation of 1.2.1. I hesitated doing the removal because add/remove would not perform if I had an instance of 1.2.1 open at the same time. Perhaps some pathing got deleted? By "creating a new profile," do you mean "add new account" in Mail & Newsgroup Settings?
Under Docs & Settings, I found a subdir with the appropiate files. Too bad the docs don't specify where these are located! Five bookmarks.html (plain, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5). Bookmarks.html = 800KB localstore.rdf = 59KB. HDD thrashing starting to occur switching btwn open pages now. Steve out.
Yes, same happens if I create new profile & copy bookmarks.html to its data folder. (800KB file)
I've a loud Disk (Seagate Cheetah X15) so it happens that I hear excessive HD usage. Since I switched to Mozilla 1.2, I've excessive disk usage when a) closing windows b) mail activity (move/delete mail with attachement) This makes Mozilla not only very slow but also loud :-|
Reporter, do you still see this problem with the latest nightly (or even 1.5)?
For me, this problem has been solved with 1.5 (or was it already 1.3?)
I no longer have this problem with Moz 1.5.
