Steps to reproduce:

  • Schedule a calendar event

Actual results:

Thunderbird shows a popup window with the reminder.

Expected results:

I expected a native notification to show up in the Notification Center where I see all my other notifications.

I don't mind having the Thunderbird Specific view if I click on that notification and also to show more details. but the basic behavior should be in the native Notification Center.

Why does this annoy me? I use TB for my professional scheduling (with the OWL Plugin to sync against Outlook Infrastructure). Since I use it, I have missed quite some meetings, because the non native notifications are just way too easy to miss. This is slowly becoming so important that I a) can't really recommend others to use it and b) I have to find a solution or I can not really justify using TB in this setting. Which sucks. Because I really would like to continue using it.

I have looked around and didn't find an appropriate bug report, but web search indicates that native notifications may be supported on windows / linux already. Maybe I did miss a switch I can flip to get this on Mac too? If that is the case, I am sorry, but at least I looked for it before hand and it was definitely not easy to find.

I have since better understood this issue. It's not that there are no native notifications generated for calendar events, but instead it's that there is only one type of notification generated for calendar events and incoming emails.

That means I have only the choice to either hide all notifications (and thus more easily miss appointments) or make them all sticky, and then get the same treatment for mail notifications (I get lots of email, much of it not as important).

The macOS Settings afaik don't help, as I can only set one set of rules per application, and since TB is one app for email and calendar it is no help there.

What I would like to see is for TB to send the notifications in a way to the system that allows me to have transient notifications for emails (and probably chat messages too) while getting permanent notifications (with options to re-alert me in a few minutes) for calendar events.
