Thunderbird takes a long time to update the subject in preview pane when clicking some messages

Steps to reproduce:
After Thunderbird auto-updated to 115.2.2 (32-bit), when I click two consecutive unread messages in my POP3 inbox's message list, the preview pane shows the headers (From/To/Reply-To from the first clicked unread message. About 30 seconds later Thunderbird finally updates the headers in the preview pane.
Similarly, if I double-click the message showing the wrong headers--even after the correct headers are shown--Thunderbird opens the message in a new window that shows no message headers at all for about 30 seconds, then finally the correct message headers appear.
I've tried both compacting and repairing that folder (inbox) to no avail.
Actual results:
Wrong headers appeared in the preview pane for about 30 seconds, and no headers appeared for 30 seconds after opening a message
Expected results:
The headers for the 2nd message I clicked on should have appeared near instantly in the preview pane, and same when opening the message into its own window

Messages with remote images? If so, maybe bug 1851871.

That sounds right to me. In my case it's probably invisible tracking images, which allows the message to appear to be drawn fully, but prevents the headers from displaying until the invisible tracking image has loaded.
