Details

(Whiteboard: [qa-triaged])

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Android 13; Mobile; rv:109.0) Gecko/117.0 Firefox/117.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to a url
  2. Click on the url field, see how it selects all the text by default
  3. Search for something
  4. Click on the url field and see how it jumps straight into editing mode

Expected results:

The behavior of this field should not change depending on the content in it. It causes a bad user experience if you tap on a search field and start typing a url, since you expect it to overwrite the field.

Since about:config isn't available and the settings option to show the real url isn't available on android, there's no way to fix this.

I am able to reproduce this issue on all builds.
I've verified the behavior on Chrome, and it turns out there, tapping on the URL bar always dismisses the previous text/URL and lets the user type the new characters.
