The upper left corner of the main window dislpays as shown by the attached screenshot.
I'm under the impression that this is not fully compliant to Apple's standards. In that sense, it should be as shown on the mock-up shown by the attached file.

Doing that will complicate a lot our layout code and we deliberately decided to not do it.
Thunderbird is a multi OS application and we follow our design guideline and we don't strictly abide to the OS UI specifications.
