User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/117.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Starting Thunderbird with multiple IMAP configured, including Gmail account

Actual results:

Synchronization of Gmail account makes TB very slow or irresponsive.
Activities show sync of xx messages over thousands , while only few new messages are actually received.

Expected results:

  • Sync only the new messages
  • Sync should be done in background, with no effect on TB responsivness. It is not acceptable to wait 5 minutes to begin to use TB (PC running Windows 11, 16GB RAM, core I7 CPU, NVME SSD)

You are using daily builds (version 119)?

If this is a recent regression, can you please use https://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ to find the regression range?

Summary: Gmail synchronisation ressource consumming → Gmail synchronisation resource consuming

Actually, it is not a recent regression, I switched to daily builds because I had this problem and I wanted to see if recent developments will fix it. So this issue was already present in the stable release.
Rq: this behavior is not present for linux release, with same IMAP accounts. Sync is done in background with no freeze or slowdown

In that case

Does problem go away?

Note also, gmail does have a tendency to have (re)download issues.

Was it also happening prior to version 115?

Version: Thunderbird 119 → Thunderbird 115

Was it also happening prior to version 115?

yes, and it is still happens with 115.4.1
at least the sync issue. Linux version seems to better handle with that, PC stays responsive....
but windows version is a mess...

In that case, for Windows you should consider antivirus as a possible cause. Please step through https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems

Please let us know the results.
