RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 178796

People

(Reporter: magnus.manske, Assigned: sspitzer)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

The "PASS command not succeded. Mail server XXXX responded: invalid user or
password" requester dialog pops up all the time. Didn't do that under the prior
Mozilla version. Quite annoying, especially while typing.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Leave Mozilla Mail open and wait...
Actual Results:
"PASS..." dialog appears

Expected Results:
something less M$-like ;-)

Just display it in the status bar instead, in red.

New behavior on this build: after dismissing the dialog (clicking OK), it will *immediately* reappear.

If Mozilla Mail *isn't* minimized, then keeping ESC pressed will eventually stop the mail transfer request (after quickly showing the dialog many times).

On the other hand, if Mozilla Mail *is* minimized when the PASS dialog pops up, there is no way to bring up the Mail window to stop the transfer request (because the dialog is modal). Then the only way out is to kill the process.
This is a dupe of either Bug 182362 (if Mozilla is remembering your password,
but it is incorrect) or Bug 178796 (if the server is rejecting your login for
some reason other than an invalid username/password).
Magnus Manske: is this still a problem for you? Have you checked against the
proposed duplicates in the previous comment?
Marking as duplicate of the bug that focuses on continual "PASS Failed" dialogs.
Magnus Manske, if you don't agree this is a dupe, let us know.
