Details
Steps to reproduce:
In Firefox 119 enter about:config and try to enable "browser.fixup.alternate.enabled" option.
Actual results:
The option does not exist anymore.
Expected results:
Firefox 119 removed the browser.fixup.alternate.enabled option in about:config (apparently due to bug 1850902), and re-creating it does nothing. This was a very useful feature that saved a lot of time, as you could (with the right configuration) type something like "example" into the address bar and be redirected to "https://www.example.com.cc". So I'd like to ask Mozilla to reconsider this change.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Address Bar' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

The pref was removed indeed.
We think autofill and the improved error page are sufficient for vast majority of users, saving a few characters in some cases is not a compelling use case. Plus alternate fixup had security implications we prefer to avoid.
Sorry about that.
