Steps to reproduce:
My ISP changed the address of the mailserver AND the username. So, in Thunderbird, I went to Account Setting - Server Settings, and changed the Server Name. Thunderbird showed me two dialogues. First, to verify that the folders exist on the new server, and second, to restart Thunderbird.
I canceled the restart because I ALSO had to change the username. I changed the username, which, again promted the same two dialogues. This time, I approved the restart.
Actual results:
After restart, I was asked to enter the password (although it had not changed). Afterwards, I received errors that the login failed.
Unbeknownst to me, Thunderbird had undone the change of email server when I refused the immediate restart.
After some testing I found this: It is impossible to change server name AND username at the same time. You must change one, then restart Thunderbird, accept a failed login, then change the other, then do another restart. Unless the user accepts an immediate restart of Thunderbird, any change to server or username are undone immediately without further prompt. It is impossible to change both at once.
That seems needlessly troublesome.
Expected results:
It should be possible to change server and username at the same time without a forced restart inbetween.
At least there should be some notification in the user interface that a change of server or username was reverted.
