Details
Steps to reproduce:
- Make my matrix account online
- Go to Account setting - E2E encryption
- Click "verify" on another session
- Click "this is me" on my other device
Actual results:
Nothing really changed, and verification never continued because thunderbird does not show any interactive verification dialogs.
On terminal, the following is printed:
prpl-matrix.matrix: error while handling verification event
"ascii" is not a function
Expected results:
Thunderbird shows a dialog (or something similar) for the interactive verification.
Either the emoji-based verification, or QR code, or anything else.

Interesting, I think that error means we somehow end up initializing QR code verification, even though we don't support that. What should happen instead is that you get a dialog in the e2e preferences tab with the emoji string.
Does the same issue happen for verifications initiated in the other direction?

When the other consumer requests verification nothing happens actually. I see the notification that they requested the verification and in a few minutes I see it as an expired request due to inactivity
I see an error - not sure it's related: resource://gre/modules/subprocess/subprocess_common.sys.mjs in 119

Hm, something like that might've been fixed in the recent matrix SDK update: https://hg.mozilla.org/comm-central/diff/033520b6f2e7f9132cf5879065eb04e4244941cb/chat/protocols/matrix/shims/safe-buffer.js
When updating the flow worked correctly for me.

Sounds like we think this is fixed then! I'll close it, but do shout if you're still seeing this on Thunderbird > 125.
