Steps to reproduce:
I have been noticing for a long time that on some large images opened in a new tab, the scrolling is not smooth, but with jerks. This is especially noticeable if you use autoscroll by pressing MMB. If you scroll the page using the scroll wheel, this is also noticeable, but not as much. Oh, by the way, on macOS I use the Mac Mouse Fix 3.0.0 Beta 6 (21668) utility, which makes it much easier to identify these jerks while scrolling. This utility is a must have for all Mac users who use a regular mouse with a scroll wheel. Very strange!
I observed this strange behavior when I was using a gaming barebone nettop Intel NUC Hades Canyon (HVK) based on Windows 10, and now I am seeing the same thing, but on an Apple Mac mini on an M1 chip.

There are no problems with this in Chrome and Safari. This bug is only present in Firefox.

I wasn't able to reproduce the issue on macOS 14.1.1 / Apple M1 Pro with Firefox 120.0 and the provided images.
- Are the symptoms you've described of equal severity on Windows 10 as well was macOS?
- Would you by any chance be able to capture a video of the faulty behavior so we can get a feeling of how severe the scrolling is impaired?
- Do you remember a version of Firefox that did not show this behavior?

Try moving diagonally across the image while using autoscroll.
And although scrolling remains smooth throughout almost the entire time I use autoscroll, it still stutters steadily. Although this is not very noticeable, it is nevertheless annoying.
Are the symptoms you've described of equal severity on Windows 10 as well was macOS?
Unfortunately, I have no way to test this on Windows 10.
Would you by any chance be able to capture a video of the faulty behavior so we can get a feeling of how severe the scrolling is impaired?
This is difficult to capture on video because the stutters itself is minor.
Do you remember a version of Firefox that did not show this behavior?
I've seen this behavior all the time I've been using Firefox.

I have an LG 27UP650-W monitor with a 4K resolution (3840 x 2160), which is connected to a Mac mini nettop on an M1 chip. In system settings, I selected the scaled Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). That is, the resolution is divided in half without any performance degradation.
