Steps to reproduce:

Installed a new copy of FF 115 esr to see if it works any better than FF 119.

Created a new folder in /home/[my name]/.mozilla/firefox, and copied and pasted all data from my working profile.

Opened FF 115 esr.
Actual results:
I get Firefox - Choose User Profile, but no option to pick the new profile folder.
I can create a new profile with all the painfully unusable default settings, but I can't use that until I can fix the settings.
Expected results:
An option to browse and find a profile.
An option to pick a profile and create a duplicate version of it.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Toolkit::Startup and Profile System' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Can you clarify how you did this?
In the Cinnamon desktop, created a new folder, copied and pasted the contents.

Ok so the profile manager only shows known named profiles as listed in profiles.ini. It simply doesn't recognise a user created folder (no matter where on the file system) as a profile folder. It's a common enough case that some UI to simplify the process of creating a new profile from an existing folder should exist. It sort of does already, if you go through the create profile process and select the folder that already exists it will work but it's confusing and probably gives off the impression that it might wipe the data in that folder so improvements could be made here.
