User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/119.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
- Drag an attachment from Outlook desktop onto a drop zone in Firefox
- File uploaded will have a
-#suffix depending on how many times you've dragged it into the browser
For testing - https://jsfiddle.net/98xb4vgn/ will alert the uploaded filename when dropped
I can't reproduce this behavior in Chrome or Edge, only Firefox
Actual results:
The file gets -1, -2, -3, etc added to the end of its name
Expected results:
The uploaded file should have the same name as the file dragged in.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::DOM: Copy & Paste and Drag & Drop' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I cannot reproduce this bug on Windows 11. Linux only? I'll check this later.

Oh, I missed this words, "from Outlook desktop". According to your User Agent, you use Linux. So, did you drag an attachment from "Oultlook for Linux" which is unofficial app from Microsoft point of view? However, I cannot drop an attachment in the app onto Firefox.
I reported it on linux, it was happening on my windows machine (I think it was 11). I’ll check tomorrow afternoon but it was the full non-webapp version of Outlook

Thank you. I tested this on Win 11, but my Outlook app is one of Office 2019. As far as I've tested, Outlook app creates a temporary file or something with numbering if same file is dragged twice or more. And that's not reset even if I restart Outlook. (Note that the count is not isolated for drop targets, so, if you try on Chrome first, you'll see renamed file on Firefox.) So, be careful testing this, but I think that this is proper behavior because the rename is done by Outlook for avoiding conflict or something troublesome.

Jesse: Could you check whether first DnD renames the file? Thanks!

I think you're right. In any case, my windows computer fails to switch to the new outlook preview so I can't test it anyway. Feel free to close this, if I'm ever able to get it to work again I'll be back!

I'm back! This was actually on the regular version of outlook, so the non-web version: "Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2310 Build 16.0.16924.20054) 64-bit" and it's still happening on Firefox 121. I just attached a gif of it, I also included Chrome in the gif to show that it only happens in ff
