if you're offline, the browser isn't going to be able to do anything because
you're offline and you need to online to be able to browse the web - is that
what this bug is about? You shouldn't need to be offline to close the browser
window, unless somehow that requires a network connection...I tried this and it
worked fine for me.
using commercial trunk on xp
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3b) Gecko/20021223
This works for me. I tried using encrypted/saved password, after
I go offline, close mail, the browser does not hang, cpu doesnt
shoot up to 100%, no problem moving browsr around the desktop,
min/max browser window, etc...
I agree with David.

I don't know why, at work (wiht ethernet) it works fine but at home (with
dial-up) it does'n work. After closing the mail window in offline mode, mozilla
absolutely hangs (even there is no ohter window opened, the process still exists
in task manager) and i have to end process in task manager.

Bug 182833 is the same bug filed by the same reporter.
Arkady, do you still see this bug with a current Mozilla?
A lot of code has been changed in mail and networking, so there is a good chance
this bug could be resolved as 'WORKSFORME' by now.
Your steps to reproduce the bug:
1. use dial-up for connection to the internet, open browser, surf
2. open IMAP mail account
3. go offline
4. close mail window
5. mozilla hangs
If this bug is still seen:
does it depend on how much time is spent between opening the account and going
offline?
Does it depend on how much time is spent between going offline and closing the
mail window?
Maybe IMAP needs some time to synchronize the folders, and end the connection.
