1866302 - Search facility broken, not finding messages in subfolders

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/119.0

Steps to reproduce:

Where do I start??? The search facility is broken in so many ways.

Actual results:

1. Doesn't find many things that are definitely there (to find them I have to guess at what subfolder they may be in, and run a search on the subfolder)

2) "Open in folder" greyed out lots of the time (not always, but I can't determine a pattern)

3) More often than not I cannot move messages to other folders

4. Messages appear threaded in the search window even when the folder is set to unthreaded

Expected results:

1. It should have found messages that were there, without me having to run a a search on subfolders instead of the whole account

2) "Open in folder" should work, and not be greyed out

3) I should be able to move messages to different folders

4. Messages should not appear as threaded

The whole thing is completely broken, and a complete and utter mess! (I am a highly experienced Thunderbird user, been using it since Day 1, and use it for both work and privately - hours of use every day)

Are you seeing this also with version 115.9.0 or newer?

Issues 2 and 3 seem to have been fixed. Not about 4 - will get back to you on that one. I've seen issue 1 very recently, but I can't remember on which of my machines - I run different versions on different machines. Will get back to you!

Thanks for the update.

For the search issue, you might try deleting global-messages-db.sqlite in the Thunderbird profile directory.

Please check, does these reproduce in version 128?

Ah, sorry - I just said in the other thread that I hadn't reported searches not finding everything they are meant to find, but it looks like I did report the issue in this thread. Sorry about that, guess this is what happens when one gets older.

Searches seem to be OK now on versions starting in 115 (on my laptop) but not on the version I run on the desktop - 128.4.4esr (64-bit) - where messages found in sub-folders, or in folders with lots of mail in them, cannot always be found.
