User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/118.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
In the "Mail Thread View" that displays the list of current mail items in a mailbox, the Collapsed State of threads is only persisted between changing mailboxes when a mail item in a thread is selected.
Open a mailbox, then expand several different email threads in that mailbox's mail items view. Select a mail item in one of the threads.
Select another mailbox.
Go back to the original mailbox.
Actual results:
The original mailboxes mails threads are all collapsed EXCEPT for the thread containing the selected mail item.
Expected results:
By default, all mail thread's expand/collapse state should persist between display, including after Thunderbird is closed/restarted and when switching between mailboxes, regardless of which thread's email item is selected. A mailbox and its contents/threads should be drawn in the same state in which it was left when it was last closed.
Perhaps this should be made into a settings option called: "Persist Thread Expansion State in Mail Lists".
A very similar bug is bug 1866250. To my knowledge, individual thread states were never persisted.
