Steps to reproduce:

Followed the instructions to Create email using a mailing list via the Address Book:

  • Click Address Book to open it
  • Select the mailing list
  • Click the Write button

This will open a new Write message window, and each contact in the mailing list will appear in a separate To field.

Actual results:

No contacts appeared in the To field.

Expected results:

Each contact should have appeared in the To field. To make that happen, I had to ctrl-click each contact in the middle column, the then click 'Write' in the right column.

But there is no Write button in the address book tab. Where are you clicking?

Went into Customize and added Write to the Address Book section.

Nothing in error console?

Just one warning: 'window.controllers/Controllers is deprecated. Do not use it for UA detection.' But that happens even when I click the Write button with the address book closed.

The "Write" button you configured just starts a new message. If you want to start a new message to the mailing list, right-click the mailing list in the address book and select "Write" from the context menu. I can't see an issue and suggest to close this bug as "works for me" or "invalid".

OK, but the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-create-and-use-mailing-lists-thunderbird for doing that are wrong as I mentioned in the OP and I just discovered in several other places.

  • Create a mailing list #2: there is no File > New > Mailing List option.

  • Create a mailing list #4: neither Option 1 nor Option 2 can't be done, as there is still no mailing list. The ways I can see to create a list are to click the 'Create a mailing list icon' next to the New Contact button or select contacts and click 'New List' at the top of the selected contacts list.

  • Create email using a mailing list > Via the Address Book #s 1, 2, 3: does not work.

  • Create email using a mailing list > Via a new Write message: there is no Write button or Contacts Sidebar.

That article is from 2015, so it was written for TB 31 or 45. The address book was completely replaced in TB 78 (IIRC). The published release version is 128. Best to get in touch with the SUMO people or some support person to fix the article.
