Steps to reproduce:
Client displaying three panes: folder list, message list, and message preview.
Download new mail.
Step through new messages:
- Scan the message in the preview pane
- Drag the message to the appropriate folder.
Actual results:
This issue began with v115 and continues through v115.5.1.
Occasional messages remain marked as "unread", even if one has scrolled through the entire message in the preview pane and all of the message appears visible [no obviously slow-to-load images or other apparent slow remote server issues].
But if one leaves the message selected & showing in the preview pane "long enough", the message eventually gets marked "read". "Long enough" varies from a couple of seconds to many seconds.
This is a new problem in v115. It did not happen in v112.
The slow-to-mark-read behavior happens very consistently with advertising messages from UnderArmour.com. It also happens occasionally with other new messages, but I have not detected any pattern.
Expected results:
As soon as the message is displayed in the preview pane, it should be marked "read".
That was the behavior up through v112.
It's often sufficient to see the preview, decide that one is done with that message, and file it for possible future reference [or delete it].

Definitely not in the current release. I am running 128.4.3esr (64-bit).
"Mark message read as soon as shown in preview pane" has been working for quite some time, but I'm can't recall exactly when or which build the problematic delay behavior disappeared.
