Steps to reproduce:

What I did was take the Windows system color for my taskbar, etc. and make it the "selected button background color." I then applied the same Hue and Saturation values, but raised the value for the background color, and lowered the value for the button color. The result is the buttons in the screenshot provided.

Actual results:

The Spaces bar matches the system color on the tabs and toolbar.

Expected results:

Since it is just a matter of sampling the system color and then determining the background and button colors by changing the luminosity value, it may be possible to automate this and cause Thunderbird to change the Spaces colors when Windows is set to use a system color instead of dark or light modes.

In the meantime, it's not too hard to do manually and works quite well.

In the screenshot, the selected background color is lum 100, the background color is lum 190, and the button color is lum 50. The selected button color can remain white.

For every system color I've tried, this works pretty well.

Used HSL values. Again with LUM 190 for the bar background, and LUM 50 for the button color. The System color in this case was at LUM 120.
