User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

I reinstalled Mozilla and autocomplete in the location bar does not work. I've
tried all combinations in the advanced options to no avail. The location bar
will get a line under when you begin typing a URL but nothing is generated.
I've tried it with the option for only previously typed URLs and without. The
drop down list has URLs in it and I've chosen one from those.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Made sure the option for Autocomplete is checked in the Smart Browsing.
2. Began typing a url into location bar (known url shuch as google or Mozilla)
3. Nothing happens

Actual Results:
I have to type the entire URL.

Expected Results:
Should have autocompleted the URL.

Mark, did you uninstall/delete the previous Mozilla version completely befor
reinstalling?
Can you reproduce this bug with a new profile?
Maybe files from your old Mozilla installation are cluttering your profile.
I have the same problem, using windows XP, and not immediately after
reinstalling. The one difference is that it is not consistent. I have not
managed to detect a logical pattern or cause which would explain why it
sometimes works and sometimes does not.

I'm seeing this as well, on a fresh/new profile install of Moz 1.3b. A little
line shows up (if the search option isn't enabled), or just the search option
(if it is). I've yet to see an autocomplete entry. Fiddling with settings didn't
help either. Win2000. Worked fine (for me) in 1.2 (which had been steadily
upgraded from v0.9x upwards).
Creating a new profile in 1.2.1 brings back autocomplete successfully.
Confirming. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507

Creating a new user profile does return the Auto Complete functionality, but
it's not possible for me to do this. My current profile has several hundred
email messages and many bookmarks, filters, settings, etc that would take way
too long to bring back.
Max, well then you won't have autocomplete.
As you can read on the front page: "Mozilla.org provides binaries for testing
and feedback". Especially if it is a beta version like 1.4b you are using.

However, it is possible to transfer your mails and settings to a new profile.
The only problem is the folder with the cryptic random name in the path. I think
there are FAQs on the net how to do it.

The best solution would be trying to find the cause for the problem, though.
Do you have any extensions or third party themes installed? Did you modify your
settings file?

Resolving as WFM since the original reporter does not respond, it works for me
and also works for all others with a new profile.

I understand that. I've done some digging in this and have a slight clue as to
how to get email messages ported over.

I understand that this is a beta, but I still believe that this is a bug that
has to be fixed.
Earlier today, I decided it was time to do a fresh install of Mozilla, starting
with 1.4rc2. I backed up my bookmarks.html, uninstalled Mozilla, and set up
reinstalling, reconfiguing, etc. I do this occasionally. I like to (whee!).

Anyways, I had set the "Remember visited pages for the last [] days" to 0 - this
is a work machine, and I really wanted things wiped out at the end of every day,
for privacy reasons. Shortly thereafter, I noticed that AutoComplete didn't seem
to work. Wiping the location bar, then setting the memory to 1 day, not 0,
seemed to bring back this functionality.

Is that intended behavior (from hindsight, it seems logical to me)? Anyone
confirm the intent, or at the very least, the process?
