User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0
Steps to reproduce:
EITHER:
A. When asked to give permission for Thunderbird to access OS X contacts upon opening the app, allow that permission.
OR, if not asked for permission:
1 In MacOS 12 Monterey's "System Preferences", in the "Security & Privacy" panel, on the "Privacy" tab, select "Contacts" from the list at right, and find "Thunderbird" in the list at right and check it.
THEN:
- Quit Thunderbird
- Re-open thunderbird
Actual results:
A blank white window appears as shown in the attached screenshot, and the beachball "wait" cursor indicates the program is frozen. This never goes away. No menus or features are clickable. This happens even if you open the app with Option held down and select to open in "troubleshooting" mode with extensions disabled. It also happens after installing a brand new, fresh download of the latest version of TB from Mozilla.
Expected results:
Thunderbird should have opened normally and been usable.
I've reproduced this a dozen times now. When Thunderbird is given permission to access contacts in System Preferences, it immediately opens only to the white window and freezes, and must be force-quit. As soon as permission is revoked by unchecking that same checkbox in System Preferences, Thunderbird immediately goes back to opening properly and working as expected.

Here is the hang report generated by the system when I force-quit the Thunderbird while frozen on the white window.
