The issue was reported via webcompat.com reporter. We are not able to reproduce the issue (most likely an add-on is causing it), but based on the discussion we recently had with the other teams, issues reported that involve audio/video failing on top sites, we have moved the issue accordingly for further investigations. Please feel free to move the issue to the relevant product and component, or to close the issue if it is not reproducible on your side.

Hi everyone.
Same Problem. Any video stuttery. It's gone as soon as seeking happened. Stop/start triggers stuttering again.
Multiple users reported the identical issue since some weeks https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1apqi9n/why_is_the_firefox_android_app_laggy_when_playing/
Version:
123.0 (Build #2016003223), f5f378e2c0+
GV: 123.0-20240212203859
AS: 123.0.1
Samsung 21plus battery degradation
Add-ons:
Privacy badger, ublock origin.
No rooted system.
If you need anything else, I'll be happy to provide information.
With all that being said. Thank you for the wonderful browser and your work.
Kind regards
Noticed the issue also and tried different old versions to find one that works.
It seems that 121 is the last version that works fine and starting from 122 the issue occurs.
The issue doesn't seem to be hardware related (maybe manufacturer?), because both of my devices have it.
Samsung S22 (exynos)
Samsung S24 Ultra (snapdragon)
It may be linked to a vendor though - tested and confirmed on 2x Samsung S23 and a Samsung Note 10 (all exynos)
Firefox versions - Nightly 125.0a1 and Firefox 123.1.0
I can repclicate this problem on my Samsung Galaxy S21+ (Exynos Chipset).
Youtube is not the only website with this stuttering playback - there are others too.
After eesking/jumping to other position in the video eversything is finde (until next video from start)
I have the exact same problem on a Motorola Moto G84 5G (Running Android 14)
Extensions:
uBlock Origin
ClearURLs Add-on
Same here, not just youtube.com but any video on any site. Jumping ahead via seekbar or player built in functions - such as youtube double tap on side of video - seems to toggle between stuttery and smooth. I.e. any jump in the video transitions it from stuttery to smooth and vice versa. Pausing and resuming while stuttery keeps playback stuttery, however pausing and resuming while smooth results in stuttery playback. Also, videos always start stuttery, I have yet to encounter a video that starts out smooth.
Samsung Galaxy S20
Android 13
Firefox Android 124.2.0
Just found a temporary solution https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1ate0w7/comment/kr5rtux/
Installing setedit and adding the following settings, then restarting your phone fixes the problem.
"min_refresh_rate" = 0.1
"peak_refresh_rate" = 0.1

Seems that it is happening on all Samsungs, but also rarely comes up on other devices as well. In the meantime Samsung pushed latest Android and OneUI update and the problem is still there.
All videos shown in the browser are impacted, not only Youtube. As the poster above mentioned - if a video plays smooth putting it on pause and unpausing it causes stuttering. Doing the same on a stuttering video not always switches it to smooth. Scrolling via the seekimg bar helps switching to smooth playback. Very rarely videos star playing smooth, but then putting those on pause makes them back to "normal" stuttering.

I can replicate this bug with my OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite, so it's not just Samsung.
GPU is Adreno 619.

I can also still replicate this issue with my Samsung Galaxy A51 on F127.

Bug was previously present for me. However, in the newest Firefox Android version all videos are now smooth
