Historically it seems like some number of users have set that pref media.mediasource.enabled to false with the expectation that it "buffers the whole video on YouTube" or something like that. Nowadays you just get very bad quality instead. This pref has been enabled by default for many years now.

Sorry just finding this. I think this makes sense at this point.
