You cannot anymore enlarge (horizontaly) the sidebar either in the 3panes window
or the addressbook window. However, you can reduce it or collaps/extend it. The
Browser window doesn't have this problem

i can't see any difference between the browser and mailnews at the moment.
Steve or Paul, do you have any ideas on what might have changed?

I can enlarge or reduce the Sidebar using the Commercial builds for:
- Windows and Linux builds on 11/12 (6pm)
- Mac build 11/11

Right, she can enlarge the side bar but only up to a maximum width that seems to
be somethink like 50% of the window.

It turns out what Ninoschka is seeing isn't a bug. In the css for the sidebar
it sets a max width of 400px for the sidebar. So the question is why isn't it
working on debug builds?
Call evaughn....this sounds like a box layout constraint code.
Putting on PDT- radar. Is the workaround horizonatal scrolling? If not for
mail, then this would be PDT+..but this is not needed for sidebar/dogfood.

I see this bug too. The best way to figure out what is constraining the with is
too add "debug='true'" the outermost box. I will take a look and see if anything
is obvious.

I added "debug='true'" in messenger.xul,
521 <!-- The main mail three pane frame -->
524 <box align="horizontal" style="height:100px" flex="1" debug='true'>
It looks like "results_box" is constraining the layout with a minimum with, but
I am not sure why.

Adding a min-width to the results-box style rule fixes the bug.
(A min-height would probably be good too.)

This is where my box ignorance shows. Why is this the case? And how come it
won't resize if I move the splitter back to the left when I add this change in?
Thanks for the help, Steve.

Ack, I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I am ignorant as well. Something else
is going on. Back to debug='true'.

I looked at this some more with evaughan. The div tag around the folders was
constraining the mininum with of the sidebar. I added the following to
messenger.css (although it should probably go in the overlay),
#folder-panel {
min-width: 10px;
}
That min width along with my other change, seems to fix the problem.

Does this mean that div tags have a bug? It seems strange that you would have to
set min widths on them.
Comment 14•26 years ago
|

That worked for me. Thanks Steve. I guess I'll have to learn more about the
necessity for min-widths. I don't quite understand that. I'll look into fixing
the address book as well. I put the folder pane style into folderPane.css
instead of messenger.css.

I checked in slamm's changes for the three pane. Thanks again. Reassigning to
Paul to work on address book. There were some differences we wanted him to look
at.

Fix checked in for the address book, scottip already fixed the mail window. This
regression was caused by changes to the underlying C++ code that handles the xul
resizing. To fix it I added min-width styles to the results tree and a bunch of
min-width styles to the card view.

Verifiede Fixed. Using an 11/17 debug build on Par's system we verified that the
Sidebar can be resized.
