User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:121.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/121.0
Steps to reproduce:
I have an email message open either in a tab or in a separate window. When I press Ctrl-W to close the tab or window, Thunderbird can be very slow to close the tab or window. Sometimes (not every time) it can take up to 2 seconds to close.
Actual results:
The tab or window closes in one to two seconds.
Expected results:
The tab or window should close just as quickly as it does when I click on the X (exit) icon for the tab or window, which is almost immediately.

Does the same thing happen when started in Help > Troubleshoot Mode?

Not that I can reproduce.
What does that tell you?
Thanks.

Some possibilities are listed at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird#w_the-problem-no-longer-happens-in-troubleshoot-mode
Beyond that I have no ideas at present.

With the help of that document have you been able to narrow down the cause?

I have all (one) Extensions disabled.
I only use the System theme - auto. I don't use Light or Dark themes.
Hardware acceleration is disabled.
I had briefly tested these last week (or 10 days ago). I will leave them set (disabled) as above for a few days and see what happens.

I can confirm that ctrl-w still closes (some) email tabs slowly after having disabled Extensions, Themes, and hardware acceleration.

You will want to get a performance profile https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiling-thunderbird-performance
Start the profiler just before doing ctrl+w, and complete capture the profile after.
Please use 115.8.0 which will become available next week.
