Doesn't change anything, unfortunately.

Do you have calendars?
Do you see activity in Tools > Activity Manager?
Does this reproduce in Help > Troubleshoot Mode?

Reporter, we are very interested in your results.
I wasn't sure whether to file a separate report or not. I am not using OS X but Linux and have been witnessing similar symptoms for a while. TB version is 115.8. No additional extensions installed (except for a dictionary / speller).
The high cpu usage cycle (although not 100% in my case, but still abnormal) is not everlasting. Sometimes it will end on its own (that is without restarting TB), but I am yet to detect a pattern.
The short version of the problem is that both the abnormal & normal cpu usage periods can last for a long time (I'd say for hours, although I haven't measured). I recorded a profile during one of these high usage periods. See here.
Regards,
Kaur

Thanks for the profile. It points to graphics/webrender. Unfortunately it lacks full symbols. To get those symbols you might need https://www.thunderbird.net/

This still needs a performance profile
