Steps to reproduce:
Selected auto and light as MacOS system theme.
Actual results:
The browser appearance starts in dark mode and the developer tools theme is dark mode.
Expected results:
The browser appearance starts in light mode and the developer tools theme is light mode when system theme is light.

The proper behavior occurs in Firefox stable release. Only in developer edition is this behavior observed.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Theme' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

I noticed in the results that 'Name: System theme — auto' states that it's not enabled but 'Auto' is selected under Language and Appearance.

That's for website appearance. You can set the theme for the Firefox UI in about:addons.

I appreciate you looking into this but that does not accurately address the issue. At the following Google Drive link (https://drive.google.com/file/d/13kPEmxWEayYsauWAlOCZD_Qb3l_eB0M2/view?usp=share_link) I have included a screen recording with Firefox Developer Edition on the left and Firefox stable on the right. When toggling the appearance in System Settings on MacOS Firefox stable correctly toggles between Dark and Light mode while Firefox Developer Edition is unchanged regardless of the system setting in both the appearance of the browser in general as well as the developer tools color theme. This behavior is inconsistent with both Firefox stable and Firefox beta.

This is because DevEdition has the Dark browser theme preselected, in which case auto means dark regardless of the system setting. Select the System theme from about:addons to get the same behavior as in stable and beta. Or select the Dark theme from about:addons in stable or beta to get the same behavior as in DevEdition, for that matter.

I appreciate your support with this ticket. It is a bit unusual that the behavior is like that but I was able to make the proper change within about:addons and I now have the expected behavior. Thank you for your continuous support of the project.
