User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:122.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/122.0
Steps to reproduce:
I am trying to change the buffer size of YouTube videos and the read ahead settings but it doesn't change YouTube player behavior. I will always buffer 120 seconds in advance, and it will only cache around 590 seconds or so for back replay no matter of the size.
I set
media.cache_readahead_limit to 20
media.cache_resume_threshold to 10
media.cache_size to 10240000
Actual results:
YouTube will always buffer 120 seconds and cache around 590 seconds or so
Expected results:
YouTube should buffer only 20 seconds in advance and cache the whole video for reply.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Audio/Video: Playback' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

This is expected. The set of preferences you list are for regular HTMLMediaElement playback, and not Media Source Extension, that YouTube (and lots of other websites) are using. Besides, this is for the disk cache, and not buffering compressed data ahead of playback.
media.mediasource.eviction_threshold.video and media.mediasource.eviction_threshold.audio are set to 100MB and 20MB respectively and can control how much can be buffered ahead. Changing those values might break websites and isn't really supported.
