Build: ------ Trunk 2002122708 Windows XP Steps to reproduce: ------------------- (1) In 3 pane mail, select a message in the middle of your inobox to display. (2) Switch to another folder. (3) Switch back to your inbox. Actual results: --------------- (1) The message selected in step (1) is highlighted but not focused. (2) The delete button on the 3 pane mail toolbar is disabled. (3) The delete key does not delete the message. Expected results: ----------------- (1) The message selected in step (1) is highlighted *and* focused. (2) The delete button on the 3 pane mail toolbar is enabled. (3) The delete key *deletes* the message.

Is it really a bug?
This is not a bug. Basically you have changed focus to the Folder pane by selecting a folder. The delete button is disabled because you are on the Inbox which we don't allow you to delete so the disabled state is correct.

4.7 behaves this way. And consider this: if we fix this to change focus back to the thread pane when you select a folder, then using the arrow keys to go up and down the folder list would force you to place focus back into the folder pane each time you hit the arrow key. I think this was a bug early in the product and we fixed it maintain focus in the Folder pane.

Per comment 3 & 4, shouldn't this bug be resolved as either Invalid or Wontfix?

I agree with comment 3. The current behavior seems exactly correct to me. Marking INVALID. Leon: feel free to REOPEN if you disagree.
