User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0
Steps to reproduce:
Name Thunderbird
Version 115.7.0
Build ID 20240119095007
Distribution ID thunderbird-flatpak
User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:115.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/115.7.0
OS Linux 6.1.0-18-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.76-1 (2024-02-01)
I have google calendar, added through the standard New Calendar function, and iCloud calendar, added and managed through the extensions "Provider for CalDAV & CardDAV" and "TbSync".
When copying and pasting "only this occurrence" from Google Calendar in Thunderbird Calendar, it will appear on my iPhone calendar as the event as it should be, plus a blank event which if deleted will delete the event as it should be. This blank event does not appear on the Google Calendar web app.
Occasionally copying and pasting will not work at all (the option to copy only this event will appear, but when pasting, nothing happens, including no dialogue to select the calendar into which the event should be pasted). By occasionally, it seems the copy and pasting will be working, then at some point it becomes broken for all Google Calendars at once. Restarting the app several times will eventually fix it.
When copying and pasting "all occurrences" from Google Calendar, this will sync correctly to other apps, but you won't be able to move the event from Thunderbird. You click and drag, but it will seem to stop the animation, then when you release the click to drop the event, the animation begins again until you click again, at which point nothing happens.
When copying "only this event" from iCloud calendar, the option to choose whether to copy "only this occurrence" or "all occurrences" SOMETIMES appears, and when pasting, nothing happens, including the appearance of the popup to select the desired calendar.
It does not matter whether keyboard shortcuts or right-click copy right-click paste are used.
Expected results:
If the iPhone behavior is an Apple bug and not a problem with the way Thunderbird handles recurring events, it is still relevant to Thunderbird as an enhancement request. There is currently no way to completely detach an event from its recursions, which is necessary to move your copied event to a new calendar, but would also allow a workaround for this bug. Either detaching the event and/or allowing copy/paste of "only this occurrence" to completely sever the recursion link if desired would work. I have submitted this as an "Idea" at https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/option-to-disconnect-or-unlink-recurring-event-from-recursion/idc-p/51311#M29846
