User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Tried opening 2 emails while downloading others and apparently this resulted in the text of both being lost. I tried closing Mozilla and reopening, but the texts of both messages were still missing (sender info appears correctly). This affected only the 2 that I tried to open while downloading; the other dozen were fine. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. I don't want to try this, as mail is lost. 2. 3.
What kind of account, IMAP or POP? Any info as to what kind of content might've been in the messages, like attachment?
reporter response via email: "Both were POP. As far as I know, both were also just short text messages. I've requested that the senders re-transmit, and will let you know if they were otherwise. One other quirk I've been noticing lately: the inbox summary is rebuilt each time I load Mozilla after a re-boot. I don't recall this happening before, esp. not with v1.1. This is both time consuming, and certain messages I've deleted reappear after each rebuild."

Can you check to see if View Message Body As is set to Simple HTML? We have a known bug where some messages don't display content when that option is selected.
reporters answer via email View message body is set to plain text. Note that other messages downloaded at the same time are all fine--the only affected were the two that I tried to open while the others were downloading.
Can you copy the message to another folder to see if the content displays. Also, when you do a View Source what is the Content-Type:
Additional info from reporter: When copied into another folder, the messages are still blank. View source is also blank for both.
Thanks for the info, I should have read more carefully comment #2. This appears to be a corrup .msf file problem we had in earlier builds, which was triggered when moving, copying or filtering messages or by interrupting the rebuilding of the summary file. You say that everytime you relaunch the app it builds the summary file. Try exiting the app, exit quick launch too if it's running. Launch again and go to mail. Let the summary file complete building before you open mail messages or change folders. Then check to see if those messages have content. If they do, exit the app then launch again, launch mail. This time the summary file should not rebuild. If it does then I may need you to try something else. We can't reproduce your problem here with the nightly builds or the build you listed above, that indicates there may be a problem with your profile at this time.
Response from reporter:Quick Launch was not running, but the summary file did not rebuild this morning. However, there is still no content in the two messages. BTW, I did not interrupt the summary build yesterday, rather only tried to open the affected messages while others were downloading (the affected messages were new, i.e. part of the same download). I received a re-transmt of one of the messages and, as expected, it is plain text. Please also note that when the summary has rebuilt, some of the same deleted messages keep reappearing. It may be relevant that these messages, insofar as I've noticed them, were imported from an Outlook file a couple of months ago.
Additional from reporter: Another wrinkle: now when I try to send email, the whole program (v1.2.1) freezes. Tried reinstalling and also rebooting, but the problem persists. Note that the browser appears to function normally, as does mail retrieval, until I hit 'Send'. I am resorting to webmail to send this.
Dan, this may be a problem with your specific profile. Do you have "Leave messages on Server" checked as an option in you Netscape profile and/or the Outlook profile that you imported from? This is looking like your specific Profile has the problem, I'm not sure how it happened, but I would like to know this before proceeding. Let me know if you have that option checked.
The 'Leave Messages on Server' box is not checked. Note that I have changed nothing in my profile recently, and the Outlook mail I mentioned was imported months ago and I have been using Mozilla mail until this week with no problem. Why would this problem persist even after a reinstall?
RE the freezing I now experience whenever I try to send mail (Comment #9), cf. bugs 176005 and 186755. I did not change anything in my profile, but it sounds as though it may have been corrupted by the event originally reported here. Reporter of #176005 also found that reinstalling did not solve the problem.
