User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:124.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/124.0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. opened a page in fenix
  2. brought other app to foreground to look something up
  3. brought fenix to foreground again

Actual results:

Fenix reloads the current page almost always, even when it was in background only for a few seconds.

This happens without any memory pressure, and other browsers like Chrome, Opera or the old Firefox for Android handle this situation much better. Imagine you were just in the middle of filling some form, and were using a PWA / Single-Page-App and you notice everything is gone when you bring Fenix back to foreground.

Expected results:

Fenix should at least behave as good as it did before the rewrite, or maybe even as good as Chrome-based Browsers.

this problem happens with Poco F3 (8GB RAM)

Confirmed the same exact behavior on my Redmi 11, Redmi 12 pro, and a random tablet with 6gb of ram
I can't say since when it's happening, months for sure.

It's close to be unusable

Same here on a Pixel 8. All tabs reload once I switch to another app for more than a minute. In my opinion, pages should NEVER reload but always stay cached. It's the craziest thing when you have a page open, go to another app, in the meantime you lose reception (e.g. you're in a train tunnel), and when you come back to Firefox to read the page you had open, it's gone because Firefox wants to reload it but there's no Internet! It's so annoying.

Hi, I managed to reproduce this issue, however if you check these tickets, you can see this issue is already covered there (example: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1853557) with the tabs reloading unnecessarily in different situations, including the one described here.
Based on that, I will close this one as duplicate.

Hello Lorand Janos, I'm willing to help on this bug.

Could you help providing the detail STR? Is this reproducible on most devices (or some specific devices) ? If possible, Could you attach the adb log ?

Thanks.

(You could post on bug 1853557 , i also CCed that bug)

Hi, sorry for the late response here, I tried a few times these past days, with different devices, and I found out that I couldn't reproduce it reliably, the behavior seems to be the same as on Chrome or Samsung browser, which accessed after a while or after accessing other apps, sometimes refreshes.
So the steps would be:

  1. Have a few apps in the background.
  2. Open a page on Firefox.
  3. Go to another app, interact with it.
  4. Go back to Fenix.

While I didn't manage to get the adb log, my colleague managed to record the issue.
