Steps to reproduce:

firefox is using around a large amount of memory and cpu with minimal tabs open, unsure if this is normal. I am easily overwhelmed and scared of big numbers coming from the electric box.

The memory report doesn't show any high values.

What do you mean with "the electric box"? Electric meter? If something is using lots of cpu time, perhaps you could take a performance profile using https://profiler.firefox.com/ and then click "upload local profile" and share the link here?
