User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130

If you type some search terms with a typo in the URL bar, then move the cursor
back to correct it with the arrow keys, the drop down menu with 'Search <engine>
for "url tar"' is dismissed, so once you corrected the typo, you cannot activate
the search.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. type "URL tar" in the url bar. The drop down shows the option 'Search
<engine> for "url tar"' is available
2. type the left arrow to correct "tar" into "bar".

Actual Results:
The drop down is dismissed.

Expected Results:
Leave the drop down open and change its contents to 'Search <engine> for "url bar"'.

This bug is also triggered if you move the caret with the mouse (however, mouse
users have the option to click the "Search" button on the right). Surprisingly
though, using the 'Backspace' key or even the 'Home' key optionnaly followed by
'Delete' leave the drop-down list open.

Keyboard-only workaround : After correcting the typo, type "End" key, add a
space at the end (to re-open the drop down), then click 'Arrow Down' and
'Return' to search as usual.

Please note that for 99% of the searches, adopting the enhancement proposed in
bug 58867 would provide a workaround which would prove faster that the bugfix
itself :-)
Yes, I would have thought that the "Search URL bar" line should still appear at
the end of the dropdown even if you activate it manually (assuming you have that
preference selected). I think the disappearing dropdown is part of the very
complex behaviour governing focus in the URL bar and won't change.
A little more information. If you follow the steps until the dropdown
disappears, and then press the down arrow, the dropdown comes back with the
search option at the end. If you use the mouse to click and get the dropdown
back then there is no search entry in the list.

Another little glitch. Use alt-D on a loaded page to go to the URL bar and then
press the down arrow. A dropdown appears with no entries except the search on
at the end of a long empty dropdown box. You can edit the URL contents but the
dropdown never populates with anything, even if autocomplete kicks in.
It's a dupe of #136687
