User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130 I have downloaded and copied flash files to proper folders on my system but anytime I attempt to open a site that contains flash, my browser locks up cold. It states its loading data for site but then locks. can't get browser to exit by clicking X or anything else. Have to open processes and kill -9 the process. Netscape 7.01 locks up as well. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open site with flash 2. 3. I have 5 systems here and they all work except for my Dell Precision notebook. Running RH 8 and everything else works so I'm not sure what is causing the problem.
1) What version of the flash plugin are you using (I recommend using the Flash 6 beta) 2) Is the audio device busy (eg music playing or esd running) when these hangs happen?
Yes and No to the Music playing question. I have tried it in both cases and it always locks up no matter what I have tried. I am using the latest download of flash_linux as I just downloaded it a few weeks ago. Thanks, Glenn
Upgrade to Flash 6.0r69 and report if you still hang.

Glenn, just to run the audio device angle into the ground, the Gnome and KDE desktop environments both include sound servers. If you're using one of these environments your sound device might be in use without your knowing it. If you're running KDE, please try running mozilla through the artsdsp program, e.g. "artsdsp /path/to/mozilla". If you're using Gnome, I believe the equivalent program is esddsp. Both of these programs intercept attempts by mozilla (or rather the flash plugin) to access the sound device, and direct it to the appropriate sound daemon.
Glenn, are you still experiencing this? Have you tried the suggestions in comments 3 and 4?
