At the moment, a user can define just a single set of toolbar bookmarks, found
in the Toolbar Bookmarks folder. I would like to be able to define multiple
Toolbar Bookmarks folders and, probably through a popup menu on the Toolbar,
select which one I want to use.

Although I am certain it would be useful for other things, my specific use for
this feature involves web page development vs. general browsing. For some
webpage development tasks, I find that I would like a set of bookmarks on the
toolbar which is different from the set of bookmarks I would use when just doing
general browsing.

I am aware that I can create a folder of bookmarks and place them on the
toolbar, but that requires me to click on the folder and then click on the
bookmark...a process I would like to be able to do in a single step, by just
clicking on the bookmark.

I had the same idea (see Chimera Board) but with also an automatic choice of the
Bookmark Bar (BB) displayed based on the current URL.
A lot of CB members like that idea.

1 Global BB that can be visible or hidden independently
x BBs that can be visible or hidden independently or automatically

In the View menu a sub-menu with all the x BBs, the Global BB remain in the main
View menu.

In the Get Info for all the BB:
- a checkbox to choose which one is the Global BB.
- a field to specify the URL that will make the BB appear

The goal is to be able to define links that can be used in the same way on
various sites.
For example Mailbar: Reply, Delete, Forward
one for Yahoo mail, one for Lycos mail, one for Bigfoot mail, etc.
The user will no more need to search where to click because it's different on
each site. He can make its own 'commands' working the same way on various site.
Imagine that on Bugzilla, etc.

I do not confirm this bug, I let the choice to the developers and if it's
accepted I'll fill another RFE for the Automatic Display based on URL.
This is definitely feature bloat, we generally don't add features for web
developers, Chimera is a user browser.

This feature has additional uses for more then just web developers.

For user-centric example, consider a case where a person might be job hunting
and wants to place specific links related to that on the Toolbar. These links
might be entirely different from those they would use for more general browsing.

Once again Simon, before giving your advice on a RFE, try to really understand it.
Feature bloat for web developers ? It has nothing to do with web dev !
>A lot of CB members like that idea.
So you are once again wrong.
If you want to get rid of feature bloat and ugly interface, mark bug 188223 as
invalid. It's ugly and totaly cumbersome.
Given Chimera's limited UI aims and development resources, I suspect this is
WONTFIX. Mozilla doesn't even have something like this. You would probably do
better to suggest it on Mozilla, though even there you'd probably have to
implement it yourself as an add-on.
Well, I hope this isn't a WONTFIX. I believe the feature would be incredibly
useful to a large number of people.
These bugs are all related:
bug 184504 More than one bookmark folder marked for toolbar placement [Firebird]
bug 202299 Ability to have bookmarks on multiple toolbars [Firebird]
bug 188577 Multiple toolbar bookmark sets [Camino]
Along with the bugs listed above, please see bug 150103
Mike since you're the boss, would you give us your point of view on this issue ?
this is pretty easy to do now actually. just create new collections in the
left-hand list of the bookmarks manager and set them as the toolbar folder with
a context-click whenever you want. sure, it's not as easy as if it were on the
toolbar itself, but....
