User story
As a PM I want to understand if the device is new at time of Firefox installation so that I can refine my understanding of the user segment and make better sense of new user retention.

Acceptance criteria:

  • Collect 'boot count' for Android version 7 and above as part of telemetry

Details on the rationale:

  • We currently retrieve the boot count for Android version 7 and above.
  • The boot count is a good proxy to know how new the device is when installing Firefox:
  • Knowing that a user installed Firefox manually on his first day since activation will be valuable to identify users who were already Firefox users on another device (unsure about Android device migration flow where you transfer apps from old device to new device but it would give us clues too I assume)
  • With DMA users can encounter choice screens on device update or new device set-up - this would help us know what kind of DMA acquisition it was (i.e existing device VS new device)
