When typing in a textarea or text input, trying to use an apostrophe will not
produce an apostrophe, but instead triggers a type-ahead find (and highlights
the "Edit" menu where apostrophe without modifiers is listed as the keyboard
shortcut). Continuing to type other characters will work normally, but you dont
get your apostrophe. Notice the word "dont" here and in the last sentence?


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try typing in any of the text boxes on this page. Be sure to use a
contraction like "it,s" "don,t" "can,t"  (but without the commas, use apostrophes!)



Expected Results:  
The "find link as you type" command should be triggered by a quasi-mode (holding
down a command key, control key, etc), not by the actual typing of an
apostrophe, at least when typing in a text box.

I am unable to type a / character here (I had to paste it just now).
Nor can I type a quote character.
But a few minutes ago, I was able to type them.  Very weird!

The steps for me to reproduce this are:
 * launch mozilla
 * load this bug into a browser window
 * click on the Edit menu (note: do not select anything; just tap "edit")
 * type in the textarea and notice that you cannot type apostrophe or slash

This sounds similar to another bug I have seen...

I wonder if this has to do with the fact that mac doesn't use XP menus.

yep, mac only it appears (esp using the test in comment 4). unable to repro on
win2k or linux rh8.0 (tested with 2003.01.14.12 comm trunk).

Clicked the Edit menu first. Testing 123 : ' " “ ‘ ’ ” ` / \ ? . 

Works for me, release 1.2.1, OS X 10.2.3

Frankie--the regression was introduced this month.  Testing with 1.2.1 won't
show this regression.

This is not currently a problem, because the patch that introduced this
regression was backed out.

vrfy'd fixed (used the test in comment 4) with 2003.02.12 comm trunk bits on mac
10.2.3 (also double-checked on win2k and linux rh8.0).
