Screen capture of the Help/About Firefox screen after installed version 125.0.1 (64-bit)
I'm getting the same issue now on the released version 125.0.1 (64-bit)
I was using FF on my laptop when I was notified that there was an update available that could not be installed and that I would have to download the new version from Firefox and install it. I downloaded the new version and installed it. It installed Firefox Browser Version 125.0.1 (64-bit). The Help/About Firefox reports the version and says "Failed to check for updates"
This is also a problem with the current Firefox Browser Developer version 126.0b3 (64-bit)
One other thing I noticed is that this must be using the new mozilla authentication since the update I don't get my bookmarks until I login using the new mozilla authentication (although I thought I had done that before on the previous version). That's just an observation.
I guess I'm making these comments just to say that this is now on both the released Firefox Desktop Browser and the Developer versions mentioned.

The failed to check for updates seems to stem from vpn software in regards to web protection, i turned it off and it worked fine to update to 125.0.2 but as soon i turn on it goes back to failed checking.
i don't no which side can fix it if its firefox or nordvpn but that seems to be the issue for me and others i've read.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Firefox::Messaging System' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

This is a NordVPN issue; I have a support ticket open with them and NordVPN has acknowledged the issue but no movement yet (that I'm aware of).
We might get more urgency from NordVPN if more Firefox users opened their own support tickets complaining about this over-broad "protection".
