Steps to reproduce:
- Upgrade to 115.9.0 (1:115.9.0-1+b1 from Debian sid)
- Open the app and do any custom operations, even in troubleshooting mode.
Actual results:
The app freezes for tens of seconds and go back to normal constantly. When frozen, it consumes 100% or even higher CPU.
Expected results:
No freezing or too much CPU consumption

Now in doubt if this is caused by an update, as I tried to downgrade to older versions like 159.8.1 but still had such failures. I only experience freezes for a couple of days and believes older versions used to work normally. Any suggestions to further investigate this?

There are several possibilities. Do you have calendars?

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #2)
There are several possibilities. Do you have calendars?
Yes, I do use calendars (8 of which currently active, plus 7 more which are defined but not enabled)
The CPU consumption problems have been around since a long time already, and are especially noticeable when using the calendar or the task.
It's not permanent. It happens at startup (thunderbird basically unusable during the first few minutes of startup), after then it is good, and then it grows progressively worse until after a couple of days its basically unusable, permanently.

Thanks for your reminder! After removing all recurring events set to repeat “forever” from my calendars (on gmx.com CalDAV), Thunderbird no longer freezes. Tasks set to recur indefinitely don't seem to cause any issues. However, I'm puzzled as to why Thunderbird allows the creation of these forever recurring events if it can't process them properly. It seems like a bug, especially considering that other calendar apps like the default Android calendar handle them without any problems.
