In the Mail tool, there is a great "quick search" based on Subject or Sender.
It would be better and faster to have that be a drop down where you could choose
any option you normally can in the Search Message Window. Doesn't have to
handle multiple searches, but my guess is most searches are single queries, but
not always subject or sender.

Several bugs are related, but none i found quite cover this one.
Some overlap parts:

bug 83971 and bug 92746 are concerned with Newsgroups
bug 182073 is for mail, but restriced to an additional search capbility for To
and CC fields.

Personally I'd really like To, CC and body to be instantly searchable from the
Mailnews UI. I NEVER search for subject or sender. That i use sort columns for.
Why those two are available as search criteria at all times is a riddle..
The old search interface was much more usable.
I never search for status, or age in days, but in my inbox I probably search for
all other options several times a day. Searching by subject or sender is just as
useful in culling a large mailbox.

My feeling was the simplest thing would be to put that dropdown on the line
there, and give it a slight modification. That may be easier said than done.

I doubt it would be faster for the user to fiddle with extra widgets to perform
a "quick" search. The way it is now is likely the fastest.

As for your idea being better, that's subjective. If you want to demonstrate
that your suggestion would really be better, you should provide some evidence to
bolster the claim.

Otherwise, recommend WONTFIX.
Summary: RFE - quick search should allow any search option → Quick search should allow any search option
The only field I find myself frequently missing in Quick Search is To: -- From:
is great if you're searching the Inbox, but pretty useless in the Sent folder.

That would be bug 182073, which was duped to bug 244325. Dupe this to 244325
also? That bug appears to be setting up for a general-purpose QS.
Product: Browser → Seamonkey
This isn't a dupe of bug 244325. If anything, bug 182073 should be reopened and
duped here, because To/Cc still is not in Quick Search.

It would be nice if the full Search menu (including custom fields) were
optionally available in Quick Search. Make it a hidden pref (a la about:config).

Dynamic search is so much more convenient than the separate search window. Two
words: Preview Pane.

BTW, why is Search only listed as a Component for Moz Suite? It applies equally
to Tbird.

It is now, for Thunderbird; see bug 256545. The patch appears to me to apply to
the suite as well, but I haven't been able to test to verify that.

Um, OK, I tested; I'd forgotten that the Suite doesn't have the dropdown
selector at all, so of course the "To or CC" isn't available.

I guess the question is: is this bug simply asking for a Suite port of
bug 244325 (the selector that TB has) or is it looking for a more general means
to search for any header via QS?

I'd say both.
While we're striving to backport interesting stuff into the suite, we're not
hesitating to enhance it while doing so. ;-)

This problem still exists in SM2. At least a quick search for mail body should be added
