Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:124.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/124.0

Steps to reproduce:

My keyboard has a few keys that do not work, so I have the On-screen keyboard set to launch on startup. After closing that instance and opening Firefox, I clicked on the icon for the keyboard pinned to my taskbar to type in an '@' for an email address.

Actual results:

On several consecutive attempts to do this across multiple websites, both Firefox and the On-screen keyboard have crashed, showing as "Not Responding". I have to restart both programs (keyboard first) in order to continue filling out my forms.

Expected results:

This is a basic accessibility issue. I don't have access to all of my keys. I should be able to fill out forms, or at least force the keyboard to quit before it deletes any progress I may have already made on a form.

update: by forcing the on-screen keyboard to quit with task manager, Firefox is able to recover if I don't click on its window first.

Is this a new issue? If so, could you try running mozregression to narrow down what commit introduced it?

(A number of Firefox versions will open in succession to narrow down when this started occurring. Simply answer "good" or "bad" based on whether or not a build reproduces the bug. Once finished, please post the output from the last run. It should give a last good and first bad revision as well as a link to look at the changesets in that range. Thank you!)

I tried to reproduce this issue as written, and I wasn't able to.

Here is what I tried (On Windows 11):

  1. Set On-Screen Keyboard to launch at startup
  2. Pin it to the taskbar
  3. Restart the computer
  4. Log in using the OSK to type my password
  5. Close the OSK window
  6. Launch Firefox
  7. Click OSK icon in taskbar
  8. Click the address bar in Firefox
  9. Start typing stuff on the OSK

I repeated this 10 times, and everything worked just fine every time.

:Reese Sorry that I wasn't able to reproduce this. Could you please verify that the steps I followed above correct? Or perhaps could you use Mozgression (as Raymond asked above)? Or, perhaps consider shooting a video of it on your mobile phone and uploading the video (sometimes that helps us see some details of how an issue might get reproduced).
