Steps to reproduce:

Followed the donation link to thunderbird donations, enterend a donation of 12 Eur per credit card, recent firefox.

Actual results:

Was asked for credit card data, then was asked for address, then the donation button said: "now donate 13.10 Eur"

Expected results:

Button: "now donate 12 Eur"
Maybe you want to state, that there is a 1,10 Eur fee caused by a donation via credit card.
BUT: There is NO way to just increase the chosen sum. So: No donation.

When opening thunderbird , no mail is selected by default, but a default entry is shown (see attached "thunderbird.jpg"), asking for donations, offering help links and link to bug reporting. Clicking on "donation" ("Spenden") opens the following link (in default browser, which is firefox in my case:

https://www.thunderbird.net/de/donate/?utm_content=paragraph_text&utm_source=start_page_tb_release&utm_medium=fru&utm_campaign=donation_2023

There, the reported behaviour occurred.

OK, during reproduction, I created donate1.jpg and donate2.jpeg.
While selecting the payment method "credit card" I didn't pay attention to the automatically set option "Transaktionskosten decken" which translates to the suspected "cover transaction fee".
Still, that should not be the way to proceed: this is not an option that should be "opt-out", but in my opinion must be "opt-in".
Because I find the proceeding rather insolent, when I offer to donate money, enter the amount I want to donate and then - unaware of the necessity to opt-out - the site simply adds additional money on top and changes the amount I entered.

Now, thunderbird might state:
"But the automatically modified amount is shown prominent on top" (of donate2.jpg)
But, this is not the amount I entered, so even if percieved, this only occurs as "another example of a donation suggestion", also by using the form of a smarthphone display and moving the tiny, pre-checked option checkbox far away from the expected "selection of payment-method" section.

Anyway, of course it is thunderbird's choice on how to do this, but I will not agree on such questionable user guidance.
