User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826

The password manager fails to remember my email password. I have checked the
box, "remember password at lest 3o times, but it fails to rember it. Password
manager is engaged. Although I have an email account setup, everytime Mozilla
tries to setup a new account. I must exit.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start Mozilla
2.Click on mail and newsgroups
3.Exit setup
4. Fill in password
5. Click on "remember password box.
6. Submit

Actual Results:
I must repeat them everytime.

Expected Results:
It should have remembered my password after the first time.
Albert, I assume in step 2 you actually set up an account by providing all the
correct information in account setup wizard completing it with the Finish
button. And I assume in step #3 Exit Setup means you click the OK button to get
out of the Account Setup window. With that assumtpion, I tested this with the
7.01 released build dated 11-07-2002 with a POP account and found it works OK.
How many mail accounts do you have in that profile and what are the types (POP,
IMAP, or other). Do you have the checkbox "Check for new messages on Startup"
selected on any/all of the accounts?
Also note, if you have checked the box for saving any password and have later
turned on encryption for passwords, you now have a master password which you
will need to provide the key after you start up the application the first time
you access a site or mail account that has the password saved.
Esther, I am seeing the same (or otherwise very similar) problem with Albert.
However, the difference is that I am not seeing it in a regular basis. I might
get asked for my password today, and then after 5 days. Or I might get asked for
my password twice in the same day.

Question: Albert, what version of Mozilla did you encounter the problem in? I
only started seeing it as soon as I installed 1.5b. The problem was surely not
there in 1.4.

CAUTION: I just checked the contents of the password manager and I found about
40 duplicate entries of my email password (the actual password is not displayed
but there is an entry in the list with stored passwords). This surely looks like
a bug to me.

Another interesting thing is that I only get asked about my email password
rather than any other password in the password manager. I guess that this can be
because of one of two reasons:
1. because it is a different category of password (mailbox).
2. because I don't access the other sites as often as my mailbox and therefore
if the problem is something that happens irregularly, then the chances are that
I just haven't encountered it yet.

I don't know enough about how the password manager works to know how valid my
first point is, though.

My configuration is as follows:
1. I have one POP email account set up.
2. I see the problem in two different PCs. One is set up not to remove the
messages from the server, the other one is set up to remove the messages from
the server.
3. I have checked the "Retrieve messages on start up", button.
4. I am not using encryption.
5. I am running it on Windows XP.

Finally shouldn't the product be MailNews?
This Bug looks like a duplicate of Bug 219162 and it has been fixed
I am experiencing the same behavior on Windows XP. I have only one email account
entry in the password manager.
