Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:125.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/125.0

Steps to reproduce:

When a mail with a link to a website that is not open in Firefox is clicked, Firefox doesn't open up and the message pane goes blank. At that point F8 doesn't bring it back and I have to restart Thunderbird. However, right-clicking and selecting "Open in browser" works as it should. If the website is already open in Firefox, clicking in the message correctly brings up the link in Firefox. The link is some sort of redirection like this: https://ck9brg46.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fapp.townsq.io%2Fw%2F5aae04348fb2865f6e4b454c%2Ftrustee%2F662f04c1468e7a413d5071b1/1/0101018f27aa9db1-c6de757f-25c8-4e63-938a-e974982e8639-000000/SzrGNchOmMTs5D0cif6_viOL6RI=372

User agent string: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:125.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/125.0

Actual results:

The message pane goes blank. F8 doesn't work and I have to restart Thunderbird to get it back.

Expected results:

Clicking the link should work the same as right-clicking and selecting "Open in browser". Whatever the case is with a link in a mail, the message pane shouldn't go away and not be recoverable with F8.

Hi,
I am not able to understand your problem.

Is it:

  1. You receive an e-mail with a link in it? (any link or a specific link)
  2. You click on the link
  3. Your Firefox is started, but it doesn't show the page?
Flags: needinfo?(rickbking)

A link to a specific website of our condominium management company called app.townsq.io. An example is:

https://ck9brg46.r.us-west-2.awstrack.me/L0/https:%2F%2Fapp.townsq.io%2Fw%2F5aae04348fb2865f6e4b454c%2Ftrustee%2F662f04c1468e7a413d5071b1/1/0101018f27aa9db1-c6de757f-25c8-4e63-938a-e974982e8639-000000/SzrGNchOmMTs5D0cif6_viOL6RI=372

Right, Firefox is already running. I click on the link and nothing happens, EXCEPT the message preview in Thunderbird goes blank (it doesn't go away, it just goes blank), and then it won't update even when clicking on another message. It continues to show the header of the message with the link, and the message preview is blank. I have to restart Thunderbird to get the message preview pane working again.

I haven't run across this anywhere else, only messages from townsq.io.

Do you see any errors in the log? Tools >Developer Tools> Console
Or can you forward the mail to me, so I% can try to reproduce it within thunderird? it's bogomil at bogomil.info

OMG I can confirm it! When you click the button. there is a status "Loading message" and then an error:
IPDL protocol error: Error reading fields for SessionHistoryInfo

I believe it's something with the tracker. After you click the button it tries to do something in the HTML version of the e-mail (works fine in the plain text one)

TB: 115.10.1 (64-bit) OS: Windows 10

I have this same issue, mainly I see it with RSS feeds like from reddit (Because this is where I am likely to click a link in the content of the page). e.g. https://www.reddit.com/.rss?geo_filter=GLOBAL

If I click on a link within a page displayed in the reading pane, rather than opening in my default browser or within TB the reading pane goes blank and then TB cannot be used as no messages display in the pane until it is restarted.

I believe this may have been fixed in an earlier version as I had this same issue, it then went away and now has come back.

Does this reproduce in 128?

I haven't seen it in a long time and can't reproduce it now. I'm at 136.
