User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0

Steps to reproduce:

I print from the Firefox browser (Print Ctrl+P). However, there were problems.
***Problem when using the latest versions of Firefox browser (version 78.15 esr and above). The problem is that on the latest versions of the Firefox browser, Printing from the browser does not work properly. On the HP 1018 (aka HP 1020) printer, when printing, the HP Laserjet status message does not display with the REPEAT button to retry a failed print.

Actual results:

HP Laserjet status message does not display when printing pages from the Firefox browser.
***Printing from the browser does not work properly. On the HP 1018 (aka HP 1020) printer, when printing, the HP Laserjet status message does not display with the REPEAT button to retry a failed print. The dialog box is shown in Attached file.
But in other browsers such as Chrome, Opera, printing is performed normally and this dialog box with the reprint button works normally.

Expected results:

HP Laserjet status message should have been displayed.
***I note that on all versions of the Firefox browser up to version Firefox 60.9.0esr, this HP laserjet status message was ALWAYS displayed!
BUT after the Firefox browser version 61.0 in subsequent versions of the Firefox browser (version 78.15; 115.10), this window (HP Status Message) is not displayed for unknown reasons.
**In this regard, we have to use other browsers, such as Chrome, Opera, where printing is performed normally and this dialog box with the reprint button works normally.

I'm not sure if I understand exactly. Do you expect the HP status message to be displayed every time when printing, even when it prints successfully? Or is this message only supposed to appear when the print job has failed for some reason?

Assuming the printer does have paper and is ready to print, does Firefox print successfully (with no status message), or does printing not work for you at all?

"this message only supposed to appear when the print job has failed for some reason" - This is true

"If the printer does have paper and is ready to print, Firefox print successfully (with no status message)" - This is true

Problem
But when the printer runs out of paper, the status message does not appear in the latest versions of the Firefox browser. As a result, I cannot resume interrupted printing.

Temporary solution
I uninstalled the latest version of Firefox and installed Firefox 60.9.0esr because in firefox 60.9.0esr the "HP status message" window appears normally.

I don’t know why in the latest versions of Firefox (125.0.3 / 115.10esr / 78.15esr) the status message is block and is not displayed

If you could narrow it down using mozregression and paste the mozregression output here it'd be useful. Otherwise it's going to be hard to track down what change exactly caused this.

Something else to try... If you print from firefox but from the system dialog (all the way to the bottom of the print options there's a Print using the system dialog… link), does it work?

Summary: Printing problem from Firefox browser → HP Laserjet printer can't resume interrupted print-job after sometime between 60.9.0esr and 78.15esr

"print from firefox but from the system dialog (all the way to the bottom of the print options there's a Print using the system dialog…"

  • This does not work.

I also tried switching the setting (about:config) -print.prefer_system_dialog = true.
-But that didn't help.

I'll try using mozregression. But I have not yet understood the instructions on how to properly use the program to find Firefox printing problems.
