Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.3a) Gecko/20021212

The first time I clicked on a .jpg attachment in an e-mail message Mozilla asked
me if I wanted to save it or open it. When I selected Open, it asked me to
identify the helper app to use. I selected Paint Shop Pro, browsing to the full
path of the executable. I also unchecked the box telling Mozilla to always ask
for this type of file. EVERY time I click on a jpeg image the dialog box pops
up, asking me if I want to save or open, and the check mark is back in the
Always ask box. The icon in the upper right corner of this dialog box is the
correct icon for Paint Shop Pro, but if I select the Open option, the OK button
is grayed out until I browse out to the psp.exe file, each time. I looked under
the Advanced button and it has all the correct information in there for the
helper app. I also checked under preferences and Paint Shop Pro is still
identified as the helper app, so that part is correct. What needs to be done to
make it stick so that if I click on a jpeg image Mozilla automatically launches
my app of choice and opens the image? BTW, I just tested this on files with a
.bmp extension and I get the same results

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Click on jpeg or bitmap attachment
2 [review].Dialog box for how I want to handle this file type always appears
3.

Actual Results:
Have to manually reselect the proper executable, then click on OK for image to open

Expected Results:
Remembered my instructions to always open a jpeg or bitmap image when I click on
it, using Paint Shop Pro.
If you still have the "advanced" button in that dialog you're using the old
version of all this code. It got rewritten a few days ago. Please retest with
a current build.
This is a combination of bug 58557 (that covers the "don't ask" setting not
being persisted) and bug 58554.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Depends on: 58554, 58557
Ever confirmed: true
removing dependency on bug 58557 because that bug only affected the pref dialog.

for content-disposition:attachment dialogs we should no longer allow unchecking
"Always ask me" (that was bug 193698)

for other types, this dialog should no longer come up. however, if you have
already an entry for other types, bug 58554 will make it work. leaving open
until that bug is fixed.
No longer depends on: 58557
