- 127.0b2
- 126.0
- 115.11.0esr
Tested platforms
- Affected platforms: Windows 11, macOS 12.6.6, Ubuntu 22.04
- Unaffected platforms: none
Preconditions
- Have a valid account on https://www.quora.com/
Steps to reproduce
- Launch Firefox with a new profile and go to https://www.quora.com/
- Sign in with the account from prerequisites
- Click on the Search field and enter any random term
- Press the “Enter” key from the keyboard and observe the behavior
Expected result
- The search is performed without displaying an error message under the search field
Actual result
- The search is performed but the following error message flashes briefly under the search field: “An error occurred. Wait a moment and try again”
Regression range
- I have used Mozregression to pinpoint the regression range, but I could not find a good build. The issue reproduces all the way back to Firefox Nightly 51.0a1 (2016-08-07). Below that version I am unable to open the https://www.quora.com/ webpage
Additional notes
- See the attached video
- Not reproducing if using the Search button displayed under the search field instead of the “Enter” key
- Not reproducing on Safari/Chrome
- Not sure if this is the correct component for this issue, please change it if it belongs somewhere else

Attaching a screenshot with the error from the web console as well.

I was able to reproduce this in the latest Nightly.
Moving to networking component as the error shows "NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource".

https://share.firefox.dev/4bekg8D -- profile with networking logs
I see the error, and don't see it in Chrome. However, I don't see any failed network requests; the application cancelled the SiteSearchBarQuery before starting several network requests including 2 ajax/receive_POST's, and apparent reporting of log_errors_3RD_PARTY_POST.
I'm not sure this is a networking problem, and perhaps is a WebCompat issue of some sort. Note that the search works.
Disabling ETP doesn't fix it.
NI to kershaw to verify the logs don't show any network failures that I missed

I can't find any networking problems in the profile.
FWIW, I can't reproduce this. Maybe this is fixed by the server side.

Hello!
I am still able to reproduce this on the latest Nightly 129.0a1 (2024-06-30), using macOS 14.4, Ubuntu 22.04, Windows 11, while following the steps described in Comment 0.
I am also able to reproduce it if using an older profile. Sometimes, multiple searches (3 or 4 will suffice) need to be performed in order to replicate the issue.

I'm no longer able to repro this; and I don't see the error in the console anymore. I think they fixed it.

Hi Randell,
I've verified this on Firefox Nightly 132.0a1 (2024-09-29), using Windows 11 and I am still able to see the error under the search field after performing a second search.
Indeed, the error mentioned in Comment 1 is no longer shown in the browser console (instead, some Cookies warnings are displayed).
I am also attaching a video with the behavior (comment 8).
Should we reopen this? Thanks in advance!

I've tried several times from Win10 and Mac, no errors visible. Can you verify with either of those? Thanks

I am also able to reproduce it on macOS 14.6 and on Windows 10. On macOS I am seeing the error after the first search and on Windows 10 after the second one.

I'm still unable to repro on Win11. I'll try again on Win10 and Mac, but I suspect I can't repro there either.
The reporter (bhidecuti) is no longer available apparently. Closing for now
