Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:109.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/115.0

Steps to reproduce:

Composing message.

Actual results:

Suddenly, top row of keys on keyboard do not work (neither digits not punctuation marks).

If I SAVE the message (I may have to do that 2 or 3 times) then those keys work.

Expected results:

All keys should work.

I realize that this might seem to be possibly be an O/S or keyboard problem, except that nothing like this happens in many other keyboard-based apps I use.

I'd think highly unlikely to be caused by Thunderbird.
And even less likely to develop mid-stream in a highly stable esr release like 115.

  1. Please test in Help > Troubleshoot mode - always
  2. You didn't state your full version number - please do so always.

Hi, Wayne,

I agree. This is highly unlikely to be caused by Thunderbird. Or at all.

As to Help>Troubleshoot mode: I cannot cause this anomaly to occur on command, so it is difficult to determine if it happens in Troubleshoot mode. But I will see what I can do.

As to the details, I am currently running Thunderbird version 115.11.0 (64-bit) under Windows 7 Professional (SP1) on a Dell Optiplex 755 tower computer.. The keyboard itself is a Gateway 2000 AnyKey Model 2189014-XX-XX.

I may try using a different keyboard for a while. This keyboard has many special features, and one of them may be somehow put into effect accidentally by something in Thunderbird.

I will stay in touch on this.

Best regards,

Doug

Further to this matter: These are the add-ins currently in force:

Quicktext. I use this to insert an HTML sequence I often use.

Textmarker. I'm not sure I need that.

ThunderHTMLedit. I often take advantage of this.

This is to update my report on the anomaly reported in this thread.

• When the anomaly visits, I cannot enter into the message being composed any numeric digits, whether from the top row of the main keyboard or from the numeric cluster (with Num Lock ON, of course).

• It is not true that, with the anomaly in effect, the punctuation marks located as "Shift" characters on the upper row of the main keyboard cannot be entered. They can be entered.

When this anomaly last visited, I had to Save the message being composed three times before numeric characters could again be entered.

This really sounds like knock on effects from an add-ons. Does this behavior reproduce in Safemode (Help > Troubleshoot Mode > Restart)? You could always simply disable all your add-ons via Tools > Add-ons and Themes > click the blue slider and restart TB and use it for a while. Win 7 is also way out of support but I wonder if some kind of keymapping issue is underlying here.

Hi, Arthur,

Yes, I agree. A test problem is that I can't summon" the anomaly at will. Still, it shows up about once a day with my normal work.

I may in fact just disable all the add-ons for a while and see what happens.

Thanks.

Doug
