Title: Enhance Multi-Window Management with Custom Window Naming
Description:
Objective: Allow users to assign custom names to each browser window to improve navigation and organization when multiple windows are open.
Detail: Introduce an option to right-click on the window previews (thumbnails) in the taskbar to assign or edit the name of each window. This name would then appear in the taskbar previews, facilitating quicker and easier identification of desired windows.
Benefits: This feature would be particularly useful for users with high-performance setups who often work with multiple browser windows, helping them to maintain organization and efficiency.

The Bugbug bot thinks this bug should belong to the 'Core::Widget: Win32' component, and is moving the bug to that component. Please correct in case you think the bot is wrong.

Surprisingly, it is actually possible to do this in Windows. Right-clicking on window previews brings up the so-called "system menu", which can be customized. However, it's almost unheard of for Windows applications to do this, and I would be extremely reluctant to do this for any feature that does not meet very high bars for expected usefulness and for implausibility of alternate interfaces.

In this case, there are already add-ons that perform similar functions with more customary mechanisms: a quick search found Window Titler. I don't think the usage data suggests that it would be worth implementing similar functionality into Firefox, though.

(Also, speaking personally, as a "user[] with [a] high-performance setup[] who often work[s] with multiple browser windows" (on the order of 100+, often with 1000+ tabs), I don't think this would actually help me. I'd expect that relying on altered window titles would break down around thirty windows, at which point mere relabelings would get lost in a sea of titles. Even prior to that point, I'm skeptical that it would offer much of an advantage over Firefox's existing % tab-search mechanism.)

Closing as RESOLVED WONTFIX — though we're willing to revisit this if there is more interest in such a feature.

:haik has pointed out that a very similar bug exists as bug 1830293. Leaving aside the UI, the suggested functionality is similar enough, and its presence suggests I'm underestimating the desire for such a feature.

Adjusting to RESOLVED DUPLICATE.
